Before you cancel your taxi and start learning the bus route, there’s a little ray of sunshine. The Congestion Charge has a free window.
The charge only applies from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays, and from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM on weekends. So if your concert starts at 7:30 PM, you can usually drive in after 6:00 PM and escape without paying a penny. Sneaky, right?
But beware! This only works if you exit the zone before 6:00 PM on weekdays, or before 6:00 PM on weekends. If you’re stuck in traffic at 6:05 PM, congratulations—you’ve just bought a ticket to the £15 show. The traffic gods are cruel comedians.

The Other Fees That Want to Ruin Your Evening
If the Congestion Charge wasn’t enough, London has a few more tricks up its sleeve. Let’s be real: driving in London is like paying a video game subscription, but with more ULEZ.
First, there’s the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). This lovely fee runs 24/7, 365 days a year. If your car isn’t super clean (Euro 4 for petrol, Euro 6 for diesel), you’ll pay an extra £12.50 on top of everything else. The Royal Albert Hall doesn’t care about your car’s environmental morals.
So, to recap: Congestion Charge + ULEZ = a potential £27.50 just to park near a big red circle. That’s more than a fizzy drink at the bar. Actually, it’s probably less than that fizzy drink. The Hall’s champagne is famously expensive.
