Their new neighbor is, of course, Granny in the castle. The Queen might pop over for a cup of tea. You have to love that dynamic: moving in next door to your mother-in-law who just happens to own a castle. “Hi, Mum, we’re just going to be in the lodge. We’ll wave from the window.” It’s like moving two doors down from your parents so they can help with the babysitting, only their parents have a throne in the living room.
But here’s the thing that makes us all nod. Every family does this. We all make that leap to a bigger space, promising ourselves we’ll finally get the garden sorted and have barbecues every weekend. William and Kate will probably make those same promises. They’ll buy a set of outdoor chairs that will sit in the shed for three years. They’ll have one glorious summer where they eat dinner on the terrace, and then autumn will hit, and they’ll eat in front of the telly, just like the rest of us.
So here’s to the Royal Move. May they find the Allen key for the flat-pack, may Louis not lose his frog, and may they enjoy every single one of those eight bedrooms—especially the one with the good morning sun. And if they ever have a housewarming party, I’m available. I’ll bring a bottle of wine and a bag of chips. I’ll even help unpack the tiara box.
