Now, I know what you're thinking, "But Mayor Adams, what about when the local sports team wins a championship? Don't they deserve a half-staff flag?" And to that, I say, "Uh, no." I mean, as much as I love a good underdog story, let's not get carried away here. Half-staff flags should be for people who have actually put their lives on the line, not just for people who are really good at throwing a ball.
But in all seriousness, Mayor Adams has a point. I mean, think about all the times you've seen a half-staff flag and been like, "Wait, what's going on?" Only to find out it's just some minor celebrity's birthday or something. It's like, come on, let's keep things in perspective here. We should be reserving those half-staff flags for the people who have really earned it.
And let's be real, if we start lowering flags for every little thing, it's like, where do we draw the line? Do we start lowering flags for NATIONAL PIZZA DAY? I mean, as much as I love pizza, that's just not something we should be honoring with a half-staff flag. Although, if we did, I'm pretty sure Italy would be like, "Hey, thanks for the respect."
