Find the small notch or slot on the side of your key fob. It’s usually near the key ring hole. Gently insert your flathead screwdriver (or coin) and twist just a little—like you’re opening a stubborn jar of pickles.
The two halves of the fob will separate with a quiet pop. Don’t panic if it feels tight—Nissan makes these things snug to keep water out. Just take your time. If your fob has a physical key (the kind that flips out), you might need to slide that out first. Check your manual if you’re unsure, but most models are pretty straightforward.
Step 2: Find the Battery and Gently Remove It
Once the fob is open, you’ll see a shiny silver disc—the battery. It’s held in by a small clip or a bit of plastic. Use your fingernail or the tip of the screwdriver to gently pry it out. Don’t go digging like you’re mining for gold. A little wiggle does the trick.
Notice how it sits? The plus side usually faces down, but take a mental picture or snap a photo with your phone. That way, you won’t accidentally put the new one in upside down (I’ve done that, and the fob just stares at you like a disappointed parent).
