Every afternoon, a flock of pigeons gathers on the roof. Not random pigeons. Important pigeons. They hold a summit.
They coo loudly, looking down at the humans. “Look at them rushing,” they seem to say. “We own this square.”
One of them is missing a toe. I call him Stumpy. He’s the mayor. No one has challenged his rule.
