This one is less about the water itself and more about where it’s been. If you get a whiff of sewer or rotten eggs only from one specific sink, the problem might be the drain, not the tap. (Plot twist!)
Dry P-traps are the usual suspect. That U-shaped pipe under your sink is supposed to hold water and block sewer gas, but if you haven’t used that sink in a while, the water evaporated. Pour a cup of water down the drain, and poof—the smell vanishes.
If the smell lingers, check for mold or gunk in the drain pipe. A quick baking soda and vinegar volcano can clean it out. (Bonus: it’s way more fun than scrubbing.)
