Sometimes the best filter is a good fence. Move septic fields, fertilizer storage, and animal pens at least 50 feet (preferably 100 feet) from your well. Think of it as giving your water supply a polite personal bubble.
Consider planting a buffer strip of deep-rooted grasses or poplar trees between your garden and the well. They’ll soak up excess nitrogen like a thirsty teenager after sports practice. Bonus points: they look cool and attract butterflies.
