You don’t need a project. Just go for the spectacle. The aisle signs are handwritten and sometimes hilarious. One sign under “Insulation” just says: “Keeps the cold out. And the cat in.”
They also have a bin of mismatched keychains. I bought one shaped like a lobster. It now holds my house keys. It has no practical purpose. I love it.
The Secret Sauce: Community
This isn’t a faceless megastore. It’s a hub. I saw a man arguing with his mate about the best way to grout a shower. A stranger walked over, handed them a free sample, and left. That’s Birkenhead Building.
They stock weird stuff, too. Found a box of 1980s door handles. They were neon pink. The label said: “For the brave.” I almost bought twenty.
