Ann Richards was the second female governor of Texas from 1991-95. At the 1988 Democratic National Convention, she famously skewered George H.W. Bush, saying: Poor George, he can’t help it—he was born with a silver foot in his mouth.

2. Stay true to yourself and don’t bend to outside pressures.
In 1993, Janet Reno became  the first woman to serve as U.S. Attorney General. She became one of the most respected members of the Clinton administration by admitting to her mistakes and sticking to her guns when pursuing policies she believed in.
