Fracking puts potentially toxic petroleum hydrocarbons such as benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene and xylene in the air near the wells. A recent University of Maryland report found that air pollution from fracking increased risks of birth defects and a variety of  respiratory problems.

12. It’s giving the U.S. more energy independence.
Fracking has made the U.S. less dependent on foreign oil and it’s created many new jobs.
