6. Natascha Kampusch
In 1998, 10-year-old Natascha Kampusch disappeared in Vienna. She was held and abused for eight years by Wolfgang Priklopil who committed suicide shortly after she freed herself. Initially, Natascha was hidden away in a basement room. Her kidnapper brought her toys, food and tucked her into bed at night. As she aged, he brought her to his apartment to clean, punishing her physically if she spoke without permission. Despite being taken with him into public gatherings she didn’t try to escape till she was 18.
