4. Jaycee Dugard
In June 1991, Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped in South Lake Tahoe and held for 18 years by Philip Garrido and his wife Nancy. Garrido and his wife kept Jaycee prisoner in their backyard, renamed her Alyssa, and told her no one was looking for her. She was raped repeatedly and bore two children in captivity. When a routine background check raised suspicion with his parole officer, police arrived at the Garrido home to investigate further finding Jaycee and her two children then age 14 and 17.
