Spring has officially sprung; you have adjusted your wardrobe and your attitude to match the cheerful spring weather…isn’t it about time you adjust your cooking as well? After all, spring is all about fresh produce and the most delicious, sweet and juicy berries imaginable—which also means berry desserts! The warmer weather isn’t just a gift for your skin tone and your mood—it’s a gift for your taste buds and your health as well. Berries are at their prime for flavor and nutrition when spring rolls around. Everything from strawberries to blueberries and currants are incredibly sweet, juicy and bursting with flavor. They also happen to bursting with vitamins. As Everyday Health reports, according to registered dietitian Nancy Copperman, MS, RD, CDN, director of public health initiatives for the Office of Community Health at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in Great Neck, N.Y., “what makes berries so special is their high levels of phytochemicals — those naturally occurring nutrients that help protect cells from damage.” Berries are also loaded with vitamin C, they can help you manage your weight, keep you mentally sharp and may even prevent certain types of cancer.
