Don’t be Fooled by Your Afternoon Caffeine Kick Inevitably when 2pm or 3pm rolls around you start to feel a little sluggish, and you crave a caffeine kick to give you the boost you need. While we’re not suggesting you eliminate coffee altogether (that would just be unrealistic) you need to be smart about the coffee drink you choose. Drinks loaded with sugar, syrups and full-fat milk can pack a lot of empty calories that you aren’t even aware you’re consuming. Opt for skim milk and nix the sugar. If you absolutely cannot drink coffee black (it’s certainly an acquired taste), then try replacing it with a natural fat-free sweetener like Splenda or Truvia.
