This year’s spring makeup trends are whimsical, flirty and all about making a statement—be it bold or minimal. As you step out of your winter cocoon feeling a tad pasty and perhaps a little naked without at least three layers of clothing, the bright spring sunshine can seem like a spotlight on your flaws. A refreshing makeover is an easy, inexpensive and totally fabulous way to rev yourself up for the new season.

Before you can put all these makeup tips to good use you’ve got to have a pristine canvas to work with. After months of harsh, dry winter air your complexion is in desperate need of hydration. Facial oils great for cleansing and moisturizing sensitive skin. They’re lightweight, all-natural and many have antioxidant properties as well as other benefits. You can use them alone or layered under your regular moisturizer to improve absorption. And, believe it or not, oil cleansers are a really gentle way to remove unwanted oil (oil attracts oil) from your skin. Serums are another key to achieving a dewy, glowy complexion because they’re highly concentrated and absorb quickly. Facialist Gina Marie tells The Zoe Report, “Serum strengthens the skin’s barrier and keeps broken capillaries—which can happen when you sneeze—at bay. If  your allergies trigger dark circles, a serum with soy peptides and organic red tea provides hydration, boosts circulation and decreases the appearance of under-eye bags.”
