On the other hand, when my husband did come into my life, my son emphasized to me that I should “take this guy seriously.” Of course, I already knew “this guy” (my now husband) was different. I guess my son also saw something special in him too, which was a great affirmation for how I felt.
Now, as my son is in his mid-20s, we can talk about his relationships and dating life. He currently has someone special in his life, and we are able to talk about what he wants long-term, what his considerations in dating are, and the challenges in his relationship. I’m glad that we’re able to have these kind of open and honest discussions, and they all stemmed from the foundation we built when he was younger.
