NEW SCHOOL VS. OLD SCHOOL MATH
When I learned math in grade school, I recall the teacher being in the very front of the classroom. Everyone sat in rows or groups but there was definitely no group work going on. I copied notes from the board, the equation was modeled and explained, and we moved on. We were asked if we understood it but there was no clear way for the teacher to know if we did or not, because we were taught in one large group. For her to go around to each of us in the entire classroom of close to 30 children would have been impossible, because there was only one of her.
