Ready for some tips on how to make long legs? What woman doesn’t yearn for leaner, longer legs and wonder if there’s some way to make them look longer? It begins around the time we get our first Barbie and continues as we graduate to fashion mags replete with images of willowy, long-stemmed beauties. The fact is, the average woman is a modest 5’4” and most of us aren’t slender, long-limbed waifs. The good news is that most men prefer a woman with plenty of curves. Just look at J-Lo, Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian.

The even better news is that there are a number of style tricks that can elongate your silhouette and make you look like you have legs for days. First things first, posture is key. Second, pay attention to proportions. As celeb stylist Rachel Zoe advises in her latest book Living in Style, “When it comes to hemlines, even a half-inch alteration can extend the line of the leg. Experiment with the length of a skirt or dress to see where your hem falls best. Just above or below the knee is usually the sweet spot, but trust your eye and instinct.” So think long, sleek lines and avoid details like ankle straps that cut across those lines. Now stand tall, shoulders back and incorporate these 13 tips on how to make legs longer (or at least appear to!).

1. Go Nude
A nude shoe that matches your skin tone is at the top of every stylist’s list of ways to lengthen legs. In 2013, iconic designer Christian Louboutin released The Nudes Collection, five of his classic styles each in five different shades. He said of the line, “The shoes are there to give the woman an extra lift, not to take attention away from the legs and what she is wearing. They disappear like magic and become a fluid extension of her legs, as in a sketch, elongating the silhouette.”
