Palm’s-Up-10-Tips-to-Maintain-the-Softest-Hands-MainPhoto

Every day there are more and more procedures, products and tips to help us reverse the signs of aging on our faces. But what about our hands? We use them for almost everything we do, so naturally they are going to show a little wear and tear over time. Plus, these days it feels like we wash our hands every five minutes (germs be gone!), which isn’t exactly how to get soft hands. Our paws are exposed to harsh environmental elements just as often as our faces. So why don’t they get any love?

As Sarah Jessica Parker knows all too well, after harshly being described as having ‘witch hands’ by a tabloid, your hands always give away your age. Recent research has even shown that a handshake is also telling. According to the study’s co-author Warren Sanderson, “We found that hand grip strength, a measure of upper-body strength that has been widely studied, is consistently a good indicator of future mortality and susceptibility to disease.” Since most of us put a lot of effort into staying youthful, we are certainly not going to let our hands blow our cover. It’s time to put the power of soft skin back in your palm. Literally. Here are some tips on how to get soft hands (and hopefully keep them that way).

1. No Glove, No Love
As temperatures drop the air becomes drier and, while it might feel nice to kiss the humidity goodbye, this is a harsher environment for your skin. Wear gloves to protect your hands when you go outside for an extended period of time. Similarly, never ever clean your house without first putting on protective rubber gloves. Sure, they might look a little less than glamorous, but they will save your skin from harsh cleaning chemicals and abrasives.
