The Power Berry 10 Frozen & Fresh Blueberry Recipes to Try This Season-MainPhoto

Updated May 14, 2018

It’s officially blueberry season (from May to August in North America) and time to whip up some fresh blueberry recipes (or frozen, we wont judge!) starring these joy-inducing little guys, even though they’re blue. This little berry, packed with antioxidants, has become known as the power berry because its properties work to neutralize the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other age-related conditions.  Plus, blueberries are low in fat, calories, and loaded with fiber to keep you fuller longer. But aside from also being famous for improving brain health, to fighting urinary tract infections, they also taste delicious.

There’s nothing that reminds of those sweet summertime memories of childhood more than eating a slice of blueberry pie or freshly picked blueberries right out of a pail. They even inspired the great American poet Robert Frost to pen “Blueberries,” a poem in their honor, which starts like this: “Blueberries as big as the end of your thumb. Real sky-blue, and heavy, and ready to drum in the cavernous pail of the first one to come.” Here are 10 easy blueberry recipes and creative ways to use them in your next outdoor gathering or for a cozy meal indoors.

It’s a hundred degrees outside and you want to serve up something extra special for your parched guests. Instead of regular ol’ lemonade, why not stir up a blue-colored antioxidant elixir to quench their thirst? This is one of the fresh blueberry recipes we love most.
