June is LGBT Pride Month and the calendar is filled with gay pride events going on around the country. Pride celebrates freedom and equality for everyone, including heterosexuals. So if you have an LGBT family member or friend (really, that’s just about everyone on the planet) and even if you don’t, we should all celebrate Pride. As President Obama said when the Supreme Court struck down The Defense of Marriage Act, “When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free.”

In a year that included growing support for marriage equality, an NFL player kissing his boyfriend on national TV and Woodrow Wilson High School’s principal coming out to his student body in a speech for the school’s annual gay pride event, it was easy for us to come up with 15 reasons your hetero family should celebrate gay pride day.

1. Love is not just for straight people.
Love is love and everyone deserves to be able to express and share their love with the world.
