2. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
This illness is spread by ticks and can be fatal; symptoms often show up between 2-14 days after being bitten by an infected tick. Symptoms include: fever, summer rash, headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, and red eyes. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is not restricted to the Rocky Mountains and is most common in Arkansas, Delaware, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee. To avoid it, check for ticks as soon as you return home from any outing in an environment with trees or tall grass.
